Taurus
Taurus graces the northern hemisphere night sky during the winter months. Positioned between Aries to the west and Gemini to the east, Taurus holds a rich mythological background in Greek mythology.
History
The constellation is notably associated with the story of Zeus and Europa, where Zeus transformed into a bull to abduct the Phoenician princess Europa.
Stars
The brightest star within Taurus is Aldebaran, an orange giant that serves as the "Eye of the Bull."
Objects
Aldebaran is part of the Hyades star cluster, one of the closest open clusters to Earth. Additionally, the Pleiades, another famous star cluster, is often linked to Taurus, despite its location just northwest of the constellation. Within Taurus, there are notable deep-sky objects, including the Crab Nebula (Messier 1), a supernova remnant that captures the attention of astronomers.
