Boötes I

Boötes I, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, was discovered in 2006 through data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and officially announced in a 2007 paper led by Heidi Jo Newberg. Located in the constellation Boötes at approximately 197,000 light-years from Earth, Boötes I is classified as a dwarf spheroidal galaxy, exhibiting low luminosity and lacking significant structural features. Comprised mainly of old, metal-poor stars, it aligns with the typical characteristics of dwarf galaxies. Boötes I's importance extends to dark matter studies, as its observed mass suggests the presence of unseen dark matter, a common feature in dwarf galaxies.
