Reticulum II

Discovered in 2015 as part of the Dark Energy Survey, Reticulum II is an ultra-faint dwarf galaxy situated in the constellation Reticulum in the southern celestial hemisphere. Notably one of the least luminous galaxies ever detected, its extremely low luminosity and small size categorize it within the ultra-faint dwarf galaxy class. While its precise distance is challenging to ascertain, estimates place Reticulum II at around 98,000 light-years from Earth. Dominated by old, metal-poor stars, this galaxy, like many of its counterparts, is believed to be enveloped in dark matter, contributing to its significance in understanding the early stages of galaxy formation.
