Triangulum II

Triangulum II

Triangulum II, an ultra-faint dwarf galaxy, was discovered in 2015 through data from the Dark Energy Survey, revealing its presence in the constellation Triangulum. This small galactic companion to the Milky Way is characterized by its low luminosity, diminutive size, and a stellar population dominated by old, metal-poor stars. Located at an estimated distance of around 30,000 light-years from Earth, Triangulum II joins the cohort of ultra-faint dwarf galaxies orbiting our galaxy. The galaxy, believed to contain dark matter like many of its counterparts, offers a valuable subject for observational studies aimed at unraveling the mysteries of galaxy formation and understanding the role of dark matter in the dynamics of these small cosmic entities.
