Asteroid 88 Thisbe, discovered on June 15, 1866, by the German astronomer Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters, is a notable member of the asteroid belt situated between Mars and Jupiter. Named after Thisbe, a character in Greek mythology involved in the story of Pyramus and Thisbe, this asteroid holds a diameter estimated to be around 116 kilometers (72 miles). Thisbe orbits the Sun at an average distance of approximately 374 million kilometers (232 million miles), completing its orbit in approximately 4.1 Earth years.
