Discovered recently in 2002, 2002 AW197 is a candidate dwarf planet that resides in the Kuiper Belt. Not much is known about the candidate, as only observations from ground-based telescopes have gathered light from the surface. Based on spectroscopic measurements of 2002 AW197, the surface is not expected to contain water ice, unlike the surface on Quaoar. More information is expected to be gathered about 2002 AW197 in the future.
