Ixion

Ixion

Discovered recently in 2001, Ixion is a candidate dwarf planet that resides in the Kuiper Belt. Not much is known about the candidate, as only observations from ground-based telescopes have gathered light from the surface. Based on spectroscopic measurements of Ixion, the surface is expected to contain mostly carbon compounds, and is rather unevolved compared to other Kuiper Belt objects. There is possible evidence for water ice on the surface of Ixion, though this is unconfirmed. More information is expected to be gathered about Ixion in the future.
