Haumea

Haumea

Discovered recently in 2003, Haumea is a fast-rotating dwarf planet that resides in the Kuiper Belt. Not much is known about the dwarf planet, as only observations from ground-based telescopes have gathered light from the surface. Based on spectroscopic measurements of the dwarf planet, the surface is expected to be covered in water ice in large quantities. This is unusual for known Kuiper Belt objects and more closely resembles Charon, the largest of Pluto’s moons. Haumea is believed to have a ring system around an elongated body, looking more like an egg than a round object. More information is expected to be gathered about Haumea in the future.
