Ilmare

Ilmarë

Ilmarë was discovered in 2009 by astronomers led by Keith S. Noll using the Hubble Space Telescope. This moon, with an estimated diameter of approximately 356 kilometers (221 miles), orbits Varda at around 4,800 kilometers (3,000 miles). Named after a figure in J. R. R. Tolkien’s fictional mythology, Ilmarë is the handmaiden to Varda. Ilmarë’s nearly circular orbit around Varda suggests a relatively stable history within the Varda- Ilmarë system.
