Pasiphae

Pasiphae

Pasiphae is one of Jupiter's irregular moons. It was discovered on January 27, 1908, by American astronomer Philibert Jacques Melotte. Pasiphae is one of the largest irregular moons of Jupiter and is notable for its unique characteristics. Pasiphae has a highly eccentric and inclined retrograde orbit around Jupiter, moving in the opposite direction of the planet's rotation and at a significant angle to the plane of Jupiter's equator. This unusual orbit suggests that Pasiphae might be a captured asteroid or a fragment resulting from a collision. Due to its distant and irregular orbit, Pasiphae likely has a chaotic history of interactions with other moons and gravitational perturbations from Jupiter. These interactions can lead to resonances and orbital changes over time. Given the limitations of observation, including its distance from Earth and Jupiter, detailed information about Pasiphae's physical characteristics, composition, and surface features is limited.
