Sinope

Sinope

Sinope is one of Jupiter's irregular moons. It was discovered on July 21, 1914, by American astronomer Seth Barnes Nicholson. Sinope is one of the largest irregular moons of Jupiter and has some unique characteristics. Sinope is in the Pasiphae group of Jovian moons. Sinope has a highly eccentric and inclined retrograde orbit around Jupiter, moving in the opposite direction of the planet's rotation and at a significant angle to the plane of Jupiter's equator. This suggests that Sinope might be a captured asteroid or a fragment resulting from a collision. Due to its distant and irregular orbit, Sinope likely has a complex history of interactions with other moons and gravitational perturbations from Jupiter. These interactions can lead to resonances and orbital changes over time. Given its size and distance from Earth and Jupiter, detailed information about Sinope's physical characteristics, composition, and surface features is limited.
