Naiad

Naiad

Naiad was discovered by the Voyager 2 spacecraft during its 1989 flyby of the distant planet. This small moon, named after the water nymphs of Greek mythology, orbits Neptune at a relatively close distance, approximately 48,227 kilometers from the planet's center. With an estimated diameter of about 58 kilometers, Naiad's irregular shape remains largely undetermined due to its small size and distant location. It plays a role in shaping Neptune's narrow Adams Ring through gravitational interactions and is believed to be a captured object, possibly from the Kuiper Belt or the asteroid belt.
