Aegaeon

Aegaeon

Aegaeon was revealed by the Cassini spacecraft in 2008 and named after a mythological Hecatoncheire, a giant with many arms and heads. This moon is among Saturn's smallest, boasting an estimated diameter of merely 500 meters. Its diminutive size presents challenges in observing surface details. Nestled within the G Ring, a delicate and narrow ring situated between the F Ring and Saturn's main rings, Aegaeon's gravitational interactions with the G Ring's particles influence the dynamics and structure of this ring. The moon's orbital dance and gravitational effects also give rise to bright features known as "arclets" within the G Ring. Although modest in size, Aegaeon's significance extends to the broader Saturnian system, particularly its interactions with the G Ring.
