Telesto

Telesto

Telesto is a moon of Saturn, distinctive for its position within one of the planet's Lagrange points. Lagrange points are locations in space where the gravitational forces of a two-body system, in this case, Saturn and its largest moon Titan, produce enhanced regions of attraction and repulsion. Telesto orbits within Saturn's L4 Lagrange point, situated 60 degrees ahead of Titan in its orbit around Saturn. This unique location is called the "leading" Lagrange point. Telesto has a diameter of about 34 kilometers (21 miles) and is primarily composed of water ice and rocky material. Its surface is relatively smooth, covered by ice and displaying minimal impact craters due to its likely resurfacing processes. Telesto is often associated with its sister moon Calypso, which orbits in Saturn's trailing L5 Lagrange point, forming a natural duo. The Cassini spacecraft captured images and data of Telesto during its mission, enhancing our understanding of this intriguing moon.
